Gas Prices in Portland = Ridiculous

Monday, May 8th, 2006

So last week, with the skyrocketing gas prices, my low tank and the fact I needed to be riding more anyway, I put off filling up my tank.

Alas, yesterday I had to break down.

To fill a little more than 13 gallons, it cost me $40.50. $40. I’m in shock. I’ve never, ever paid $40 worth of gas into my tank. It’s seriously depressing. I vow to bike to work as long as it’s nice from here on out. It’s a little more difficult logistically, but the actual on-the-road time is only about 5 minutes longer on a bike, and it’s much more enjoyable…

Taste of the Nation, Bike Racing and Sun!

Monday, April 24th, 2006

As I mentioned previously, this weekend I completed my first ever stage race – the Willamette Valley Classic. My first ‘sports goal for 2006′ to get crossed off the list (now, for that half-ironman, half-marathon and crit…)! I’ll write up a race report later, but for right now, lets just say that I a) Need to train more and b) Have to learn how to be more aggressive riding in a pack.

Tonight is the annual Portland food event that I somehow never paid attention to the past two years I lived here! The Portland Taste of the Nation is a tax-deductible fundraiser for the Oregon Food Bank that includes tastings from all the restaurants that I normally dine at during Happy Hour….plus lots of others that I’ve always wanted to try. It’s pricey, but I’m considering it a present to Charlie and myself for surviving this weekend.

Finally, this week looks like it will be amazingly sunny – yes! I’m planning on good rides tomorrow and Thursday if I can overcome my recent attack by pollen (since when do people develop allergies in their 20s???). Maybe I’ll fly somewhere with less nature for a weekend – I’ve been writing up some really good deals in cheap tickets lately.

Living in N. Portland has its advantages - it's cheaper, it's a few miles from work, and there are number of cool restaurants and shops opening up. However, it still has a reputation for being slightly seedy and not ... [Continue reading this entry]

2006 Spring/Summer Domestic Trips

Wednesday, April 5th, 2006
Keeping up with blog writing is difficult - I don't want to write about things that I don't think people would find interesting...or can't find the time to make 'kinda interesting' things worth reading :) I've been keeping my eye on ... [Continue reading this entry]

Confessions of a Pack Rat

Sunday, March 5th, 2006
I moved this weekend. No, not overseas. To another place in N. Portland. I know, not nearly as exotic as moving across the ocean. However, I am thrilled to be reunited with some of my stuff after 3-4 months of ... [Continue reading this entry]
